Difference between 3G and 4 G telecom services
Posted Under: Telecom
You must be hearing a lot about 3G and 4G telecom services but do you really know the difference between the two. In all probability you don’t. A lot of people say 4G is basically an extension of 3G, however there is actually a lot of difference between the two. The band measuring frequency of 3G ranges between 1.8 and 2.5 GHz while the frequency band of 4G is between 2 and 8 GHz. However, the bandwidth of both 3G and 4G lies between 5 and 20 MHz.
The data rate of 3G is at most 2Mbps whereas the data rate of 4G more than 20 Mbps. Moreover the access of 3G is via Wideband CDMA and the access of 4G is via Multi-carrier – either CDMA or the OFDM (TDMA). Turbo codes are the FEC of 3G and the FEC of 4G is concatenated codes. As far as the switching is concerned 3G has packet or circuit whereas 4G has only packet.
