PIN credit cards are cards that require a PIN to be entered as a way of authenticating a transaction. This is a new option that is being used as a substitute to signing names. The change was due to the need to provide a more convenient way for credit card users to carry out transactions. This is because retailers do not have to go through the hustle of determining whether a signature is genuine or not.

The use of PIN credit cards is also seen as a security measure that will reduce the high incidences of credit card fraud. It is expected to reduce the number of unauthorized transactions that are carried out. Some of the credit card companies encourage card holders to ensure the PIN numbers remain confidential because they will be held liable in case of unauthorized transactions. PIN credit cards are now being offered by a majority of banks.
